In the early days of tennis the racket was made out of wood, had a round shape and made out of gut strings. It was the standard for tennis rackets for many years but it did have its flaws such as the weight. It weighed about 400-500 grams but it had a smaller racket head so it was easier to hit the ball at the sweet spot(the middle of the strings). In the 1960s, aluminum and steel come into play as they are lighter weight and increased durability. It also allowed for greater power and spin. In 1970s, graphite is introduced and it was revolutionary in creating tennis rackets because graphite was a light weight yet strong material. This material helped with control, power, and shock absobrtion. When the modern tennis racket were still new it paved way for larger racket head ranging from 95-135 square inches. This allowed for the increased sweet spot and gave players more power and spin.
