China’s New Weapon Can Fry Enemy Drones 2 Miles Away

China has recently unveiled a groundbreaking weapon capable of disabling enemy drones from nearly two miles away. Introduced at a major air show in Zhuhai, this high-power microwave (HPM) system, known as the FK-4000, represents a significant advancement in defense technology against small drones. Developed by the China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation (CASC), the FK-4000 can emit powerful microwave blasts in under one second, allowing it to effectively neutralize lightweight and small drones swiftly.

What distinguishes the FK-4000 is its ability to cover extensive areas while remaining invisible to the naked eye, making it an essential tool for military applications. The system is equipped with a large antenna, measuring approximately 26 feet in width, enabling it to target distant threats with precision. At the same air show, other Chinese defense manufacturers showcased similar microwave technologies. Norinco Group revealed its own microwave emitter system, which includes advanced radar capabilities for tracking and targeting drones.

Additionally, the China Electronics Technology Group Corporation (CETC) integrated microwave technology into its Thunder Low-Altitude Defense System, indicating a growing trend in military applications of microwave technology. The air show not only emphasized military advancements but also highlighted China’s ambition to expand its aerospace capabilities. Agreements totaling around $8.3 billion were signed during the event, reflecting China’s commitment to enhancing both the military and commercial aerospace sectors.
