Project Kuiper is Amazon’s initiative to deploy a little over 3,200 satellites into Earth’s orbit to provide high-speed WiFi internet to underserved and remote areas globally.
Since its creation, Project Kuiper has gained significant support. After obtaining approval from the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) in 2020, Amazon committed $10 billion to the project. On October 6, 2023, Amazon successfully launched its first two prototype satellites into orbit to test their systems. This launch marked a significant milestone for Project Kuiper, with the mass production of satellites expected to begin in 2024. Commercial services are projected to start by the end of 2024 or early 2025 at max.
Project Kuiper could offer many advantages to the average person, such as lower prices and integration with other Amazon services. The company has also made significant investments to ensure it can compete globally, investing $10 billion in the project.

When can we expect the whole fleet to enter orbit?
Amazon doesn’t know, but the FCC expects them to release half by the middle of 2026.
Amazon isn’t the only company working on satellite internet. SpaceX’s Starlink, founded by Elon Musk, is also building an extensive network of satellites to provide global internet. Starlink has already launched many satellites and has begun offering internet services in several countries.
Amazon’s project Kuiper is a major advance into the future because of the competition between Star Link and Kuiper in satellite internet, which creates lower prices for the average Joe. It also allows people who live in more remote areas to have reliable WiFi wherever they go. Kuiper could transform schools in underlying communities to give them internet connections that they wouldn’t get because of the location and infrastructure.
