Futsal started in 1930 when a teacher in Montevideo, Uruguay, Juan Carlos Ceriani, created an indoor version of soccer. Once Ceriani created the sport, it started gaining worldwide popularity. A few years later, they published a rule book for Futsal, which led to the sport’s first international competition in 1965.
Futsal is played with a team of 5 people on each side and a size four ball on a full-sized indoor basketball court or an outdoor court without side walls. Like soccer, Futsal has two halves. However, Futsal gives you 20 minutes of playtime each half. It also allows you to have one timeout each half, and if the ball goes out of bounds, it is kicked in bounds.
Futsal and Soccer have many similarities, but they also have many differences. Futsal is different from soccer because when a ball is hit out of bounds in soccer, it is thrown back in bounds, but in Futsal, the ball is kicked back in bounds. Futsal also allows the team to have unlimited substitutions and one time each half. In soccer, each team has a limited number of five substitutions. Also, you don’t get any timeouts throughout the game.
