The PS5 Pro, a premium version of the PS5 for a 200$ premium. The PS5 Pro has three main upgrades, an advanced GPU, better ray-tracing, and a new PSSR (PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution) chip. The GPU, Sony says, promises to have 67% more computing units and 28% faster memory giving 45% faster rendering. But the storage speed and CPU in the PS5 Pro isn’t changed, so while it should have 4K resolution and 60 or more fps, it’s possible the console won’t load and boot up games any quicker.
The largest change for current PS5 owners is that playing on a PS5 Pro will not require choosing between Performance and Fidelity modes (Visuals vs FPS). But Sony could just increase those modes with the PS5 Pro, since the PS5 Pro supports 8K gaming. It could be that Performance and Fidelity modes will still exist if playing games in 8K means once again decreasing frame rate, which it’s going to do. The difference is that most people won’t care, because who owns an 8K monitor/TV?
Advanced ray-tracing, that is a feature that’s been used in the PS5. But the PS5 Pro’s advanced ray-tracing make it better, with more reflections and refractions. In short, games with lighting and lots of reflections should look better. Ray-tracing on the current PS5 has been lackluster compared to PCs with high-end GPUs. But that has a lot more to do with the game rather than the console. Many PS5 games aren’t made for ray-tracing, although there have been some PS5 games like Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 that have nice ray-tracing use. The PS5 Pro could just make them look better without compromising frame rates.
Now that we’re done with the positives let’s get to the negatives. The PS5 Pro costs 200$ dollars more not including tax. Once you get the PS5 Pro you could try to play the games you already have but the disk drive comes separately at 70$. The stand for the PS5 Pro also comes separately at 20$, so the original price might be 700$ but if you want it to come like the PS5 it will cost you an extra 90$. As shown in the video with 700$ you could make a PC that outpaces the PS5 Pro, could be upgraded in the future, and has a much larger game library. In short the best option is to NOT BUY THE PS5 PRO.
