People are getting more and more worried about AI getting more advanced and taking over and “enslaving us” or doing something worse. The thing that they are afraid of is called “artificial intelligence” It’s like the evil AI like from The Terminator, the main idea of this is that they gain consciousness not just being good at chess and math.
The first thing that we need to discuss is what it means to be “intelligent.” It means to be able to make decisions. The things that fit this are a self-driving car, squirrels, and dogs. But on a deeper level of intelligence, it would mean to be able to think freely. Unlike us humans self-driving cars, squirrels, and dogs can’t think freely, we can be different from others choosing not to do this and instead do this, that is what makes us different from us.
The truth is that current AI doesn’t match up to what normal people call “INTELLIGENCE.” Most AI is good at things like chess, math, and operating jobs, but AI can’t think for itself. What scientists call it is AGI. (Artificial General Intelligence) this is basically what real intelligence is.
AGI (Artificial General Intelligence) is basically like us humans, it can think for itself. It can solve tough math problems and other things. Universality is not just a key part of AGI it is something that can help us with many other things like a threshold. In 1931 logician Kurt Gödel discovered that in every logical system that reaches a level of expressiveness, self-reference has just got to happen. And then all of a sudden, you have got to have paradoxes like “you’ve got to be wrong” or something around that.
AI has also made many impressive improvements, it has made voice recognition, and generation, image generation, and natural language processing, but one thing it has yet to make original thoughts. What AI runs off of mostly is algorithms and also data without those it can’t start conversations
