Studying for exams is stressful. Studying and still not passing is even worse. Well, that’s probably because you’re not studying in the best way possible. There are many ways to study and many more ways to study incorrectly. Here are some great methods to help you ace your next test!
- Plan ahead: Make a plan before getting to work and make sure to stick with the plan. If you prepare materials and get ready prior to working, when you start studying, you can get started right away. The plan you make keeps you on track with the tasks you need to complete.
- Exercise before studying: Exercising before starting your work gets your brain up and running.
- Don’t cram: We’ve all had times when we’ve postponed studying for a major test until last second, but while you might ace that test, studies show that there isn’t much learning when you cram. The long-term effect of cramming doesn’t actually help you. Cramming helps you in the moment, but if you want to ace tests after the cramming session, you shouldn’t cram.
- Color code your notes: Color coding notes makes the notes easier to comprehend and review. Having different topics, subjects, and key ideas separated can organize thoughts and help when soaking in the information.
- Ask for help: If you don’t know what the material you need to study means, ask for help from your teachers or professors. They know how to help students and since their test will be the one you take, they are a great person to ask for help from. Many students struggle and are embarrassed to ask, and ultimately don’t study and learn as efficiently.
- Work with a buddy: Other students such as yourself are also struggling to study and might need a buddy as well. A buddy keeps you on track and you can both help each other with the study material.
- Actively study, don’t just read: Purely reading is a great way to prepare for studying but reading doesn’t re-teach you things you forgot. It is simply re-reading, and re-reading causes you to forget the material.
- Keep reviewing: A way to keep the information that you had previously learned solid in your head is to review notes and assignments.
- Reward your efforts: Rewarding yourself convinces your mind to keep pushing yourself forward. Studying can mentally exhaust your mind and simply studying can drain energy. After the study session is done, reward yourself to encourage further studying in the future.
- Silence isn’t always best: People work best in different environments, so it’s best if you know where and how you work best. If you work better with music, feel free to listen to music. Studying differs from person to person, and as long as you get the studying done, you’ve successfully accomplished your task.
Happy studying!
