Technically, the universe expanded from an explosion which is called The Big Bang. As space quickly expanded, the universe cooled and matter was formed. One second after the Big Bang, according to scientists, the universe was filled with tons of neutrons, protons, electrons, anti-electrons, photons and neutrinos.
