Recently Denmark created the first national project, this project is to bury CO2 at the bottom of the ocean. The country is planning a CO2 “graveyard” where they will bury about 5,900 feet (1,800 meters) of the worlds CO2 under the North Sea.

This new ambition is called the “Greensand” project, It will be led by a German oil company and a British chemical giant. The all around goal of the project is to prevent the release of CO2 into the atmosphere, this is an attempt at lowering the effects of climate change. This project is one of many being started around the world.  By 2030 they would like to collect eight million tons of CO2 per year. Right now there are roughly 30 projects happening across Europe.

What sets the “Greensand” project apart from the others is that Denmark will import CO2 from other countries, they will be the first country to do this. The CO2 is liquified and then transported by ship. In the future they are hoping to transport it by pipeline. This project is aiming to reach climate goals and lower the effects of global warming. Danish officials are saying that they hope to reach carbon neutrality by 2045, they say this is a major, important thing to help climate change.
