How is Artificial Intelligence Used in Medicine?

For many people, artificial intelligence is all about human-like robots, cars, robotic pets, or ocean and space exploration. But have you thought about artificial intelligence in medicine?

Artificial intelligence can be very useful in medicine. For example, someone receiving open heart surgery may need to get a large incision in the upper left chest. With robotically assisted heart surgery however, only three small incisions need to be made, and the window for error is much smaller. This method of surgery can also lead to reduced pain, faster recovery, and smaller scars.

Some people choose to have laser eye surgery to correct their vision, and that involves artificial intelligence. Lasers are programmed to reshape specific parts of your cornea, and at least 90% of patients achieve 20/20 vision or better after the surgery.

Even within the medical field, artificial intelligence can be very smart and can even save lives. As technology advances in our world, you will likely hear more and more about robots saving lives, not just robots meant to kill.
