Cleaning Water

Cleaning+Water

One of six people in the world does not have enough access to clean water poor sanitation, health problems, and death in countries across the world. This crisis is not caused by a shortage of water on Earth, but rather a shortage of water in regions and countries in the world. For example, Canada has an abundant supply of waters, while the Middle East does not. Other times, the water sources are contaminated both toxic and natural pollutants.

Water Shortages in Areas of the World

Engineering effective desalination plants would help regions where clean water is scarce. Current desalination plants use reverse osmosis, but they require a lot of money and energy to operate. New technology could lower the cost and make the plants more energy efficient. One method would be nano-osmosis, in which salt would filter out of tiny carbon tubes. This is only one of the many technologies being developed to provide clean water.
