The Space Needle is located in Seattle, and stands 605 feet in height. It was built for the worlds fair in Seattle, and opened in 1962. There is a restaurant located at the top of the tower. The architects who built it were John Graham Jr, Victor Steinbruick, and John Ridley. They managed to build it in less than a year. The total cost to build the tower was 4.5 million dollars. The tower itself stands on a tripod, similar to legs. The top of it has a double decked “top house” crown. There is a restaurant on top of the needle, that spins in a circle, taking about 58 minutes to make a complete rotation.
This is an example of civil engineering and mechanical engineering, because it is a public building, and has a rotating restaurant floor. Mechanical engineering is engineering that uses machines and the Needle has this. Civil engineering deals with design and construction of buildings like this. In 1998 the Seattle Landmarks Preservation Board, approved the Space Needle to become an official landmark of Seattle. The Space Needle is a unique building similar to the Eiffel Tower. They were both created for the worlds fair and eventually people started to appreciate the genius of each design.
