Many people think that curling is boring. I’m one of those people. But as it turns out, there’s more to curling than I thought. Curling debuted in the Olympics in 1924, but didn’t officially become a sport until 1998. There are actually many famous curling fans, including George Clooney. Curling is also known as, “The Roaring Sport,” due to the sound that the stone makes when it glides across the ice.
This relates to engineering because in curling, the players have a “broom” that they use to make the ice more slippery so the stone can travel farther. This is an innovative way to incorporate friction and other scientific properties into the sport of curling.
