The technological singularity is a theory that the invention of an artificial super intelligence unit will trigger a technology growth, resulting in changes in human civilization. The theory says that a computer based robot will enter a “runway reaction” of self improvement cycles and then expand to the other robots forming them to be far smarter than all humans. Scientists believe this could happen as soon as 2029 or 2040. Others believe that the robots will just turn out to be good, never surpass the humans knowledge,  and just help with everyday things.

This relates to engineering because engineers, scientists, and software designers are the ones who create these robots and if someone thinks they are smart and gives one robot the ability to repair and upgrade it self it will soon be high enough to upgrade other robots and then take over. Engineers are the ones who are able to program the robots so its a matter of if they give them too much power or if engineers can control them.

This relates to life because 2040 is only about 20 years away which isn’t too long away so if this could all start in the next few years and if robots take over human civilization then humans won’t be needed and the world could end. Robotic Engineers might make this happen.
