The main components found in lipstick are wax, oil, alcohol, and pigment. The wax used usually is some combination of three types of wax beeswax, candelilla wax, and camauba. Wax lets the mixture be formed into shapes to fit into the lipstick tubes. Oils like mineral, caster, lanolin, or vegetable are added. Fragrance and pigments are added as well. Preservatives and antioxidants are also added to the mixture. These are just the basic ingredients in lipstick, lipsticks also contain many other ingredients depending on the type or brand of lipstick. The process of making makeup can be split into three steps melting and mixing, pouring it into the tube, and packing the product.
This relates to engineering because manufactures are always looking for better, cheaper, easier ways to make makeup. They formulate new mixtures using new and different ingredients and chemicals.
